I am delighted to welcome you to Tame Valley Academy, where I feel honoured and privileged to be headteacher. We are a one form entry school at the heart of the Bromford community, with a real “family” approach to caring for all our pupils. The diversity of our local community is embraced and we work hard to ensure all our families feel valued, supported and included. As part of the University of Wolverhampton Multi Academy Trust (UWMAT), we are committed to providing the very highest standards of teaching and learning and the aspirations and ethos of the school are reflected by the Trust. At our school expectations are high and learning is challenging, relevant and fun for all. We encourage and inspire children to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment where they can aim high and pursue their own ambitions, without giving up. We want to see our children grow into responsible, caring, independent and confident individuals who understand what success looks like and how it feels. One of our key aims is to ensure that all our pupils are equipped to go out into the world and make it a better place.
We deliver an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum with a strong emphasis on challenge and good progress for all, whatever the starting point or individual needs. The academy curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, with much of our learning in foundation subjects coming through the Cornerstones Curriculum. To ensure that our pupils’ personal development and emotional learning needs are met, we follow the Jigsaw scheme of learning. We set high standards for attainment in Reading, Writing and Maths and we do everything possible to ensure that every child reaches their full potential in these areas.
We ensure that lots of exciting practical and outdoor learning opportunities are provided so that our children have as many of opportunities to experience new things and visit different places as possible. We nurture key skills such as independence, perseverance, self-esteem and resilience in all our children in order to equip them for a lifelong love of learning.
At Tame Valley we offer all our children regular opportunities to represent the school at a wide range of sporting competitions and tournaments. As well as football, cricket and athletics, this also includes sports such as golf, archery, curling and boccia
We are very proud of our sporting achievements and the school has recently celebrated achieving the Silver Quality Mark through the Youth Sports Trust and the School Games Gold Award. We run a weekly parent and child health and fitness club, where families learn together about how to keep fit and eat more healthily. We also provide a good number of extra-curricular clubs linked to other curriculum areas such as Science, Computing, Cookery and Story Time. Throughout the school year we take the children out of school on as many school trips as possible, to support and extend their learning in school and provide them with a wealth of real life experiences.
Everything we do at Tame Valley is driven by our children and we provide a safe, happy, stimulating environment for them to work and grow in. We are really proud of our environment in school, which includes vibrant classrooms and a good amount of open space. This includes our Sensory Garden, where small groups of children are able to enjoy quiet time and our own Forest School area, which includes an outdoor classroom, ensuring Forest School sessions can take place all year round. Every part of our environment actively supports the learning and development of our children and the school values and ethos are reflected by the high quality, vibrant displays all around the building. Tame Valley is a calm environment with a well-established ethos of care and nurture.
We believe in an inclusive environment where all children are welcome in our academy regardless of race, gender, ability, culture, religion, sexuality or disability. All our children have equal access to the curriculum and an equal chance to flourish and achieve their best.
Our School Council, Eco Council and E Safety Councils meet regularly to discuss different aspects of school life and to contribute to the continual drive for school improvement.
We treat all children as individuals and operate an effective behaviour system focused around the rights and responsibilities of every member of the school family. Pupils had a high level of input into the introduction of this system and have a good understanding of not only how it works, but also why our rights and responsibilities are so important throughout school and everyday life. Our E Safety council work as online safety ambassadors across the school, supporting the adults in school in teaching their peers about how to stay safe on the internet. Children speak very highly of our school, reporting that they feel happy and safe in school. One child recently stated to a visitor that, “We are like a big family here and it’s important that we look after each other so that no one feels left out.”
